Opening for UBC Archive Internship

Updated: Apr 18, 2021

OVERVIEW

Job Title: Summer Intern (Paid)

Supervision: Archivist and Summer Research Fellow, Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus

Dates: June 14, 2021 – July 23,2021

Application deadline: May 15, 2021

SUMMARY

The UBC is hiring one intern for six weeks this summer to work on archives organization, digitization, and research projects. This exciting program will allow interns to work with documents that are 50-100 years old. This is a rare opportunity to have firsthand experience working on these Archives.

The intern should be based in the Detroit metro area, or willing to live with family/friends there for those six weeks. Interns will work up to 20 hours each week.

The intern will be paid $10/hour. They will have the opportunity to conduct their own original research on bandura history, to network with the archival and/or bandura communities, and to learn to use digitization software. These are marketable skills that we are happy to share with young members of our community. Interns who successfully complete the program will be provided with reference letters and four free tickets to the next UBC performance in their city.

Interns will also develop a basic understanding of how museums and archives preserve history and make materials available to researchers. They will learn about the history of the bandura, bandura ensembles, and their own role in that history. Interns will also have the opportunity to meet and interact with members of the UBC Board of Directors and other bandura community leaders.

They will learn about the careers of these professionals and develop the mentoring relationships that will help them advance their own careers after completing academic studies. The Summer Internship offers an opportunity to learn firsthand about the work of the UBC, archives preservation, and collections curation.

COVID-19 CONTINGENCY

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the UBC will offer internship positions only if government officials determine it is safe to. For example, interns will be expected to maintain social distancing, wear masks in public, and use hand sanitizer often.
